Losing you... And everything else

Well, I see I'm losing readers by the fistfuls. I never had many to begin with, so hello to the 3 of you sticking with me. I've become such a rotten blogger that I understand why people are jumping ship, but still... It's painful. Deeply, deeply painful. I feel a song coming on... KC and the Sunshine Band...

"Please don't go. Don't go-OHHH-ohhh. Don't go away... Hey, hey, hey."

If you're still here, come out of the woodwork and let me know. Leave me a comment, even if you usually lurk, just to say Hi. My battered blogger ego needs a boost today.

I guess another exciting post is in order so that I can hang on to all three of my remaining friends. So. Let's see... What to post, what to post. What.To.Post.

I got nuthin.'

Alex is seriously considering the military, which has me very nervous and upset. He hates school and doesn't really know yet what he wants to do. He feels like he's just kind of drifting and lost. I told him it's perfectly normal at 18 years old not to know what you want to do with the rest of your life. I don't want him committing years of his life to the service until he knows for sure that that is absolutely what he wants, since there's no backing out of it once it's done. I think teenage boys can have such a romanticized notion of the military sometimes, know what I mean? All that macho Hollywood crap. I want him to be SURE. Then, I want him to decide to pursue something else- lol! I don't want to be a military mom. I worry enough as it is. If you're a praying person, pray that God will give him direction and reveal the right path for him.

Mike has girl trouble. Last month, he and a friend (a girl, but not a girlfriend) decided they would go to Prom together, as friends, since neither one was dating anyone (do you capitalize the P in Prom? Is Prom really that important that it deserves a capital P? I wouldn't know since I never went to Prom, or prom). Since that time, Michael has started dating a (different) girl, who will, no doubt, expect to be taken to Prom by her boyfriend, if they are even still deeply, eternally in love by that time. The girl who is just a friend is not being very understanding about Mike's changed situation and still expects to be his date to Prom, or prom. His new girlfriend doesn't know yet about any of this. I doubt she will be very happy to know this other girl expects to go with Mike. Oh, the drama. Doesn't it take you right back to your high school years? Poor guy. I fear he's going to wind up staying home that night, without a date at all. I'll take him to a movie. That will fix it- spending Prom Night with your mom... Good times.

Let's see... What else.

Oh, I've decided to try my hand at quilting... Again. I've attempted this several times in the past, with depressing results. I don't sew. I'm not a sew-er. How do you spell sewer, as in "one who sews," without it looking like you're saying sewer, as in "all the underground pipes that carry waste and filth?" I guess I say seamstress? Ok. Whatever. I'm no seamstress. Never learned in middle school. Never took a class. Didn't learn from my mom. Ha! Visions of my mom, hunched over a sewing machine... That's funny!

I have a sewing machine. I can turn it on. From there, we start to have our troubles. But I love quilts, and want to make one for the baby. I bought a few books on Amazon and have been watching videos on YouTube, so I'm sure I can learn everything I need to know from those, right? Free Smiley Face Courtesy of www.FreeSmileys.org I'll let you know how it goes.

Well. That's the big news for today. I said the other day I'd post pictures of my new haircut, and I will... Really. I will. As soon as it doesn't look like crap. I do not know when that will be. I'm sure all three of you are remembering I said that and you're waiting with bated breath to see the new hairdo.

What does bated breath even mean? The word bated would mean "restrained," or it could be like "diminished." Waiting with restrained, diminished breath? What does that mean? Does it mean you're sitting there holding your breath, waiting to see my haircut? Because that kind of makes sense... Does anyone know?

...Gee, I can't imagine why I'm losing my readership.

Yeah, I think it does mean we're sitting here holding our breath, waiting to see your hair. So please post the picture already, because I'm not that good at holding my breath, and blue really isn't my color.
My stats have gone down a bit lately, too. Maybe there is just a lull in the blogsphere. Or maybe people just don't like my politics (even though I relly try to keep it off the blog, it's really, really, REALLY difficult these days, so the ocassional jab somehow just slips in, and, oh my word! how did that happen? You know?).

Crap, I really am not sure why that posted twice. Feel free to delete the second one. Or the first. Or both.

But if I leave your doubled comment, it appears that I get more comments than I really do, thereby making me look More Important. I shall leave it there.

Ha! This is a fun post, even though you thought you had nothin'.

I think there really may be a lull in the blogosphere lately. Some of the blogs I read lately haven't had many posts and I've had less comments on mine too.
Maybe that just means my posts have been crappy. :)

Would you post that new hairdo photo already?

Check in on you quite frequently but have had the flu this week so have not been doing much. Come on the military isn't so bad! :) My husband has 20+ years in. 8 were active and the rest National Guard. Our son is already planning his career in. It has not always been easy and I am sure as the Mother it will be much harder but God will take care of them! I will pray for God's will to be done and that you will find peace in whatever the choice is!

I'm still here! And my readership is down so much I often wonder if there's any point in posting. (And I don't have the awesome teen drama fodder to blog about ... well, I do have a teen but she would KILL me if I so much as thought about blogging about anything related to her whatsoever. Darn kid and her knowledge of the dangers of the Internet!)

Seriously though, I blame facebook. Also the VN shutdown. And anything else I can think of, like the holidays and the state of the economy...

I am here! I have been a little busy with moving my blog but I do check yours everyday! I also want to see the hair!

I'm a lurker and enjoy your reading your blog. I don't blog everyday either.

I'm still here too :) I have just become more of a lurker than a commenter. I can't wait to see the hair. I wish I could do something with mine... same hair for the past 20 years. Good luck with your boys. Teen years are tough. I will see if I can find the pattern I used when I made my first quilt 2 years ago. It was really easy and I was a brand new sewer!! I found the pattern online. But what I thought was going to be a baby blanket, could probably be used on a queen size bed... lol... but it still came out nice.

Prom is lowercase. But Homecoming is capitalized. I'm an editor. I know these things. Yes, it's seamstress. But I can't explain bated breath. not without looking it up and I'm too lazy.

I am still here too!

I'm here - I lurk. I hardly ever comment. I disagree with your political beliefs but I still find you hilarious in other ways. :)

Well, you know you can't get rid of me. My parents were in town this week, so I haven't been on the computer at all. I'm still here reading even though I know I got the ax when you had to cut down on your blog lines.
My husband is a military guy, and though it hasn't always been easy, the Navy is a safe-er way to go. Hey three squares a day and a warm bed at night no matter where you are!

HI! I wrote a really long comment and then it lost it. Dang it.

In summary:

1) I'm still here and still love you even if you keep giving us the silent treatment.
2)Your son should try to find some other guy to take the girl to the prom. The friend should be more understanding...can he take both girls? LOL
3)I don't know what bated breath means - all these years I thought it was "baited" breath...I thought it had something to do with waiting for a fish to bite
4)I wanted to make a quilt for G~ too. I bought squares on eBay, called my aunt to give me some tips since she quilts, and never ever started any of it. I once saw a notice in our church bulletin that said they had a quilting group and were looking for more people - no experience necessary. I got excited until I read the time of the meetings - 10:00 am on Mondays. Ya, I don't think they are looking for single working mothers. I'm think I would need silver hair and bi-focals to join. But if it had been on Saturdays I so would have went.

Maybe I should look up how-to videos on quilting on youtube. I learned how to do a perfect bun in my daughter's hair for dance on there using a sock. It could work....let me know how it goes.

You seriously totally can learn everything you need to know from youtube, especially if you're a visual learner. I'm a terrible quilter so I admire your perseverance.

I agree with you on the military. It does not at all help that military recruiters are trained to make it sound MUCH better than it will ever be, often out and out lying to kids who are at an age where they just want to "belong" somewhere.

I have been in the military for 17 years and spent about 7 in schools (college or tech schools). I have friends in every service and know the positives and negatives of each. I entered the military at 19 without much direction and feel grateful for the education, confidence, and polish it provided. I don't know of many places that offer the same opportunity as the military granted there are risks. I would be happy to speak with you or your son about military life. Feel free to email.

Wow Chelle you have a ton of readers! I truly only have a couple! Loving the posts, want to have lunch, and get my pathetic gift! Lets do it this week, before I start my new job and can't anymore!

I'm here . . . just returned from Vietnam with our new son (8 yo). I read when I can and always enjoy your posts! Keep 'em coming!!

Our 21 yo just joined the Army . . . in basic training currently. I agree that 18 is awfully young, but our son tried school, tried full-time employment, tried living on his own, ended up coming home each time one of his attempts at independence failed. We're hoping that the Army will give him the direction he appears to be lacking. I wish your son the best with his decision!
