I don't know if you'll remember me, but...

So, remember back when I used to come here and pose as a semi-professional writer and thrill you with adventurous tales of my exciting life? And there would be actual words written right here in this very space for you to read? And those words would be read by literally tens and ones of people on a daily basis? And remember how I would read your blogs and keep up with your lives and make oh-so-insightful comments on your posts?

Yeah...

Good times.

What the heck happened to all of that, you ask? My gigantic, ancient, saggy, exhausted, sleep-deprived, 42 year-old arse has been kicked by an eight month old little boy, that's what happened.

I have committed the ultimate adoption blogger's crime of neglecting my blog once I got home with my baby. Mea culpa. I never intended for this to happen and I'll try really hard to get back into the blogging habit.

You know it's time to blog something when people start emailing to ask if you're alright. A big Thanks! to all my loyal blog buddies and readers (all two of you) who were so kind and thoughtful to check up on me.

I'm curious to know if anyone is even still here... Have I been abandoned? It would serve me right. Should I continue talking or did you all find more reliable and interesting bloggers to read? If you're still around, you'll have to leave me a comment and let me know.

Everything here has been just fine since bringing Sam home. I originally fell off the blogging wagon when we all got sick about a month or so ago. Then we got sick again. I had ear and throat infections that would not go away. But now we're all okay and just busy.

Sam is great! Such a dream baby- everything I would have asked for and more! He'll be 9 months old on Aug. 16th, and we just had our 3 month adoption anniversary the other day (7/27). He cut his bottom two teeth and has started crawling. He's carefully contemplating the effort involved in pulling himself up to stand. He just started saying Mama a few days ago, and I swear I'll never get sick of hearing it (yeah... whatever). He's been saying Dada since shortly after we met him, but it's not necessarily intentional or directed at Darrell. Yesterday morning, he opened his eyes, smiled at me and said, "Mommm-Mommm-Ma." Joy! I'm counting that as intentional. He's still not a great sleeper, which goes back to the topic of me getting my bum kicked by this kid. All in all, though, he is my pride and joy and I'm head over heels for him, as is everyone else in the house.

The rest of us are great, too. Darrell and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary pretty soon (on the 11th of August). Darrell needs to get another job going (and quick), so keep that in your prayers. I must say though that it's been a huge blessing to have him around so much since bringing the baby home. He's been an incredible help to me, and I'm going to miss not having him here when he's back on the job all the time. I'd hate to see how horribly I would have failed at handling the last three months without all his help. This whole "having a baby later in life" thing is hard (insert whiny voice here). How come none of you warned me (insert sarcasm there)? Seriously, it really is harder than I remember. Of course, it's been 7 years since our last baby, and she was older than Sam when we brought her home. It's also been So Much fun. Darrell and I keep saying we think we're taking time to enjoy this baby so much more because we know he's our last one.

Alex and Evan just returned from a church camping trip. Mike stayed home due to work- he's been working for the city, so he's out cutting weeds and stuff all day. Alex turned 19 at the end of May. Tuck will be 11 at the end of August. The girls are both just fine. We all start school on Aug. 20th (both at the public HS and here at home), and, as always, I.Am.Not.Ready. I need a few more weeks to prepare, but if I had them, I'd use them for something else, and I'd still need a few more weeks when school time rolled around. I'll have 5th, 4th, and 3rd grades at home this year, along with Sammy. It should be interesting.

That's about it for now. I know that's a pretty dry and boring assessment of what's been happening here, but at least I blogged something, right?

I am not still here - just here. We are gathering our dossier for the RMI (and also in our 40s) and I found your blog from the Yahoo group. Good to "hear" from you again - please keep on posting! Sheri

I'm so glad you are back ---- you were missed! I've been checking in periodically. I understand completely when the baby "takes charge". I had the same experience when I brought my now 4 year old home from Guatemala. He was 7 1/2 months old. Cutest kid on the planet (or maybe tied with Sam :), but the child DID NOT sleep well at all. He work up every hour or two all night. When I got 3 hours of sleep in a row, I thought I was in heaven.

Hang in there ---- it does get better! I won't tell you how long it took mine to get better, but it did happen. LOL

Still here. Everyone keeps telling me that what older moms lack in energy we make up for in wisdom. This 45-year-old butt is still being kicked by my Sammy too!

Welcome Back!!! :-) Girl, as long as your feed hits bloglines, I'll be here to read. :-)
I think it's awesome you are enjoying this time with the baby - in between bouts of sickness, that is. It's just not right how quickly our babies grow up, you have to enjoy every second! (or at least the seconds when they are not crying or whining or otherwise making you a little bit batty!)

I'm still here. As another 42 year old mom of a bio 9 month old and an 18 month old adopted from VN at the beginning of the year, I know how you feel. Well, except for the fact that you have five more kiddos than I do. Our little adoptee has only slept through the night once; he usually has us up three or more times. Sigh. Glad to see you back.
