I just signed a petition, available here on HULIQ , asking that Yang Peiyi (the real voice of the Olympic Opening Ceremony, who was not allowed to appear on stage because she wasn't "cute enough") should be allowed to sing at the closing ceremony. There is information available to read, and you may also leave a comment when signing the petition.
Personally, I was disgusted when I heard about this and think it's a terrible thing to do to an adorable 7 yr. old little girl. Different culture, different ideas- I guess. Hopefully, they will get the message and do the right (and kind) thing.
Please take a second to sign it and give this cutie a chance to show her stuff! Thanks!

Happy Chinese New Year/Tet!
First and most importantly- I have a "renewed" prayer request for Lavender at Sweet and Sour Chicken who is having her first surgery today for her cleft repair. Please take a moment to pray for this little girl's safe and successful surgery, quick recovery time, pain relief, peace of mind and freedom from fear for Sabrina (her mom), and that her doctors will be blessed with wisdom and steady hands. The last time I requested your prayers for her, the surgery was put off due to illness. Let's ask the Lord to allow the doctors to get started, with no complications, and make a lot of progress today. I appreciate your prayers!

In hopes that Mom's chicken soon will be there...
We're celebrating with a dinner of Chelle's World Famous Super-Delectable Sesame Chicken, which I will be slaving over all day. It's a pain to cut up enough bite-sized chicken pieces to feed eight hogs, but it's worth it... Sooo good! Incidentally, "Life Change 08: Operation Chelle Reduction" is on hold until dinner is over (if I have to kill myself cooking it, I get to eat it. Them's the rules, folks, and they are unflinchingly rigid). Michael can sometimes be convinced to do the chicken cutting for good 0l' mom, so maybe I'll luck out and get out of it. Just depends on whether he likes me today or not. If I had to put money on it, I'd say I'll be cutting the chicken.

Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin-Gong Shee Fah Ts'eye= A pronouncement of blessing... "I wish you to be prosperous," or "Congratulations on being rich")
Gung Hay Fat Choy (Cantonese- Gung Hay Fat Choi= similar blessing of prosperity)
Hey- these remind me a little of the preferred expression of my favorite Trekkie (you know who you are): Live long and prosper! Did you know that phrase did not originate with Spock? It is actually adapted from a Jewish blessing, and Leonard Nimoy is (was???) a Jewish man. Supposedly, he worked it into the script and they kept it. Interesting little bit of Trekkie trivia there, entirely free of charge from your old Aunt Michelle, to share at the next convention. Just one more valuable service I offer.

In Vietnamese, the greeting is "Chuc Mung Nam Moi," but don't ask me how to pronounce it...

Just in case that fact was not made obvious by Cartoon Chelle's choice of headgear in the picture at the top, and the rat sitting at her feet... If you were born in 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, or 2008, you are a Rat Baby and this is your year! That means that some of you waiting PAPs may have Rat Babies on the way this year!

LWB Update
Good news! Love Without Boundaries won the Facebook Challenge!! That's a whopping $50,000.00 that will provide heart surgeries to babies in China!!! To all who gave, my sincere THANKS!

Love Without Boundaries
UPDATE: LWB won today's $1000.00 challenge! Today is the cut-off to win the $50K. Thank you for donating, if you have already. If you haven't and want to, HURRY!
For those of you who may not know, Love Without Boundaries is a wonderful organization that helps children in China's orphanages. They help arrange and pay for surgeries, provide medical care, foster care, and nutritional and educational support. You can visit the website to read more about them here, just finish reading this first!
LWB is taking part in a Giving Challenge sponsored by Facebook. They are in the last 24 hrs. of the challenge and need as many people willing to donate $10 as possible! The charity with the most individual donors giving $10 or more by February 1st will win $50,000 for their charity. They are currently in first place but may not stay that way for long. If they win this money, LWB intends to use the funds to save the lives of orphaned children in China needing heart surgery. Since heart surgeries average $5000 in China, the prize money could help ten children have a second chance at life!
What's really cool about this is that the contest counts each individual donor, not just total dollars raised. So 20 people responding with a donation of only ten dollars will have a greater impact (towards winning the prize money) than one person giving $200. You know you will blow ten bucks on something stupid today anyway! Yes, you will. You'll buy a few mochas, or new lipstick, maybe some Odor-Eaters or new boxer shorts, or something really, really stupid, like bread and milk. But nothing that costs you ten bucks today will be life-changing. Wouldn't you rather use it to help a baby whose life can be changed? Come on... Help a kid!

A Voice For Rural Women of China
This is an article from latimes.com about Xie Lihua, an activist for women's rights in China. If you have a Chinese daughter, this may be of interest to you. Even if you don't, it's pretty good at explaining the current condition of women's rights in China's rural areas. When I come across articles like this I save them for Bri, hoping that in the future, they will give her a clearer understanding of her birth country, its cultural climate, and the factors that may have influenced her birth parents' decisions.
**Unrelated personal news- My MIL has broken her other hip (she broke one last July 4th, too- along with her elbow). This happened just yesterday and she went into surgery late last night. Darrell is with her, but I don't have any news yet. Please keep her in your prayers. She is such a sweetheart- I love her to pieces, and feel so bad for her. She was still having trouble with pain from the last break when we saw her at Christmas. If you don't hear from me for awhile, that's one of the reasons why- my mind is on other things. Upon my return, we will discuss the poll results and declare me the winner.
